Asia: Etyjin huippukokous vuonna 2025

Maaliskuussa 2021 Te, herra presidentti, teitte merkittävän aloitteen uudesta ETYJ-huippukokouksen järjestämisestä vuonna 2025. Teitte myös kohteliaan tarjouksen huippukokouksen järjestämisestä Helsingissä 50 vuotta sitten pidetyn historiallisen huippukokouksen kunniaksi. Totesitte myös, että tarjouksenne on saanut tukea Washingtonista, Moskovasta ja Berliinistä.

Aloitettanne on myös tukenut yli 130 Pohjoismaiden ja Itämeren alueen kansalaisjärjestöjen edustajaa.

Ottaen huomioon tämän hetkisen äärimmäisen jännittyneen ja vaarallisen tilanteen, jonka koemme tämän päivän Ukrainassa ja USA:n/NATO:n/Euroopan ja Venäjän välisissä suhteissa, kiireellinen tarve uudelle ETYJ-huippukokoukselle on suurempi kuin koskaan.

Suomella – kuten myös Ruotsilla – on perinteisesti ollut vahva rooli rauhan, vuoropuhelun ja yhteisymmärryksen edistäjänä. Tämä rooli on säilytettävä ja vahvistettava. Kunnioitettujen liittoutumattomien valtioiden tarve välittäjinä on kiireellinen. Siksi toivomme vilpittömästi, ettei Suomi – eikä Ruotsi – tuota pettymystä niille ihmisille, jotka maailmanlaajuisesti yhdistyvät rauhan ja yhteisymmärryksen puolesta. Liittyminen Natoon, ennen kuin vuoden 1975 hengessä järjestettävän uuden Etyj-huippukokouksen tulos on selvä, olisi selvä pettymys kaikille.

Me, 8 merkittävää kansainvälistä ja 66 kansallista järjestöä Euroopasta ja Etyjin jäsenmaista, kehotamme nyt Teitä, herra presidentti, tekemään kaikkenne täyttääksenne sitoumuksenne järjestää uusi Etyj-huippukokous vuonna 2025, huippukokous, jossa keskustellaan ja esitetään koko Euroopan todellinen turvallisuusohjelma, jossa kunnioitetaan myös Venäjän tarpeita ja toiveita.

Ihmiset, jotka työskentelevät rauhan ja planeettamme selviytymisen puolesta maailmanlaajuisen sosiaalisen epäoikeudenmukaisuuden, ilmastonmuutoksen ja ilmastoon liittyvien katastrofien lisääntymisen aikana, tarvitsevat poliittiselta eliitiltä voimakkaita signaaleja siitä, että pelkoihimme ja toiveisiimme suhtaudutaan vakavasti.

IPB has 300 member organisations in 70 countries which together with individual members, form a global network, bringing together knowledge and campaigning experience in a common cause. IPB links experts and advocates working on similar issues in order to build strong civil society movements.

IPB plays a central role in the Geneva-based NGO Committee for Disarmament, a committee of CONGO, the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Status with ECOSOC. There are sister committees in New York and Vienna. Together they follow various disarmament negotiations, within and outside the UN.
